What is a good spacebar CPS score?

An average computer user clicks between 5 to 7 CPS on the spacebar. Gamers reach 8 to 10 CPS, while butterfly and jitter clicking specialists can reach 12 to 15+ CPS.

How is spacebar CPS calculated?

CPS stands for Clicks Per Second. It is calculated by dividing your total spacebar presses by the time in seconds (for example 45 clicks in 5 seconds = 9.00 CPS).

Can you hold down spacebar to cheat the test?

No. Our spacebar test detects keyboard key-repeat so holding the spacebar will only count as 1 click. You must physically press and release the spacebar for each click.

Does keyboard type change your spacebar click speed?

Yes, mechanical keyboards with short travel switches (like linear red or silver switches) allow the spacebar to return faster, helping you score 1 to 3 CPS higher than stiff membrane keyboards.

CPS Speed	Rank Tier	Who Clicks Like This?
0 – 4.0 CPS	🐢 Sloth	Slow and steady. Normal for one-finger tapping without warming up.
4.1 – 6.9 CPS	🚶 Average Human	Standard score for most people who type casually on computers every day.
7.0 – 9.9 CPS	🎮 Pro Gamer	Fast and sharp. Great reaction time for MOBA, FPS, and rhythm games.
10.0 – 12.9 CPS	🐆 Cheetah	Super fast speed! Usually reached using butterfly clicking with two fingers.
13.0+ CPS	⚡ Godlike Alien	World record tier. Requires jitter clicking technique or specialized switches.

How to Click the Spacebar Faster (Techniques that Work)

If your score is stuck around 5 or 6 CPS and you want to jump to 9 or 10 CPS, here are simple methods you can practice right now:

1. Butterfly Clicking (Two-Finger Method): Don't use only your thumb! Put your right index finger and right middle finger over the spacebar. Tap them one after another like two drum sticks. Because two fingers share the work, your CPS can almost double.
2. Two-Hand Spacebar Method: Place your left thumb on the left side of the spacebar and your right thumb on the right side. Alternate tapping left, right, left, right. This reduces finger tiredness in longer 30s or 60s modes.
3. Don't Smash Too Hard: Pushing the spacebar key all the way down into the plastic desk takes extra milliseconds for the key to bounce back up. Try pressing just enough to actuate the switch, then release quickly.
4. Use a Mechanical Keyboard: Laptop keyboards and cheap rubber dome keyboards have soft spongy feel and slow rebound. A mechanical keyboard with red or silver switches springs back up immediately, letting you register faster repeat clicks.
5. Warm Up Your Fingers: If your hands are cold, your muscles move stiffly. Shake your hands and warm up with a quick 5-second test before trying your record.
